PLEASE NOTE, it is expected that the importance of tasks and skills will differ from company to company.  The BIM Competency Table is deliberately generic to provide a pan-industry point of reference.

If you want more detail, you can see all the ‘primary‘, ‘secondary‘ and ‘oversee‘ tasks for BIM Technicians and all BIM roles in the BIM Competency Table.

Your level of competency in each of these tasks will, hopefully, increase with experience.  If you want to assess your current competency and understand where you are on your BIM career journey, here is a link to the free BIM Competency Assessment Tool. Use it to target the training/experience you need to progress.

The BIM Career Ladder is a constantly evolving, constantly improving, collaborative project to create and maintain an industry standard for BIM skills.  If you have any ideas on how it can be improved we want to hear from you.  Simply email me and I will respond.
