With good BIM talent so scarce, knowing what matters to people you want to retain and attract matters to you.

To find out what good people are currently looking for in a job and test the latest theories on generational changes, we have conducted a quick, ‘toe-in-the-water’ poll on social media and the results are in.

One thing they show is how useful the information is and the benefit of getting more robust data. Fortunately, DBE.careers is a busy site for BIM professionals, with over 1,000 new users every month. So, we will be launching a full survey to understand in detail the impact of COVID-19 on attitudes to job security and job satisfaction at different career stages, across the generations. We hope it will give clients some better insights for acquiring and retaining good BIM talent.

ABOUT THE QUICK SURVEY:

We asked our BIM community, when they look for a new job, how they rank the following:

  • Career progression
  • Well-being
  • Salary

For the generational perspective, we broke the results down into the following categories:

  • Generation Z (born 1997+)
  • Millennial (1981 to 1996)
  • Generation X (1965 to 1980)
  • Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964)

THE RESULTS IN SUMMARY:

  • If you’re looking to hire a Millennial, their focus is equally on career progression and money. Not well-being.
  • If you’re looking to hire Generation Z, all 3 priorities are equally important.
  • Gen X are more money focussed.
  • Baby Boomers are more ‘well-being’ centric.
