With recruitment about to increase and scarce talent in in high demand, your best people are likely to be approached by other employers. How can you avoid the expensive process of replacing good talent?
Give your stars what matters most to them and increase the likelihood they will stay.
What do they want? Very simply, the 3 Rs:
The best companies retain their best talent by investing time in helping them progress their careers and enjoying their work. Individual aspirations differ but the 3 Rs motivate us all.
Creating individual career paths is a great opportunity to respect what matters to individuals and create milestones to recognise and reward talent.
If you want to retain BIM talent, you can use the BIM Competency Table to give your stars an action plan with defined BIM milestones and clear opportunity for promotion.
It’s too easy to lose good talent because people don’t see an opportunity to progress. Often there isn’t the chance to move up to a new role but there is still opportunity to progress within each role. The BIM Competency Table shows there are multiple levels within each role – for example, progressing from a ‘competent’ BIM Coordinator to a ‘proficient’ one. Even small promotions make a big difference:
1: Recognition
2: Self esteem
3: Progression
4: Kudos
5: Reward
With only 4 or 5 roles, and no competency levels, promotion used to be a challenge. With the levels in the BIM Career Ladder it is much easier.
So, save money, look after your good people and give them the opportunity to progress.
