It won’t all be BIM…
If you’ve made it all of the way to this, post number 4, then the industry really does have more free time than we’re all letting on.
About me? Well, I’m one of you. I started my career several years ago now, in design focused higher education, and have taken an ever-winding path through design consulting and into the realm of construction. The journey has been incredibly varied, full of unexpected turns and has now taken me to a place that I didn’t know existed when I started: BIM.
Looking back, the learning curve has been almost frighteningly steep and that is what has lead me to here. I’m hoping to share some of my experiences, both good and bad (this isn’t an Instagram lifestyle page). I want to get you all talking, keep you interested, to impart some of the knowledge I’ve stashed along the way and generate some ‘food for thought’ as the industry continues down the path of Information is King. And this is by no way a finished piece, this journey is still young, and there’s a wealth of things to explore.
IT WON’T ALL BE BIM. That needed to be bold because I fear for losing people at this point, warned off by the thought of endless posts on virtual reality and common data environments. BIM is still misunderstood, it’s a far broader brush than a good (or bad) percentage of the population realise. Whilst my journey has taken me into this ‘BIM defined’ role, this little acronym is far from the summary of my experiences, past or present. I’ll be covering topics across the full range of AEC, so don’t leave just yet, bear with me.
The content will be mixed, from snaps of industry events, to technical discussions and detailed posts on topics I feel require more attention. Most importantly, you won’t be seeing any pictures of my lunch, nor will you see any of my dog (sorry).
I want this to be useful for the largest possible range of individuals; to encourage those starting out on the journey I’m still on and to interest those currently describing themselves as ‘too long in the tooth’ to keep pace with the technological changes driving us forward.
The best bit? 100% impartiality. Technically, I don’t even exist, so who do I have to answer to? No software sponsorship, no paid advertisements and no company affiliations. Like or dislike, agree or disagree, you’ll get the uncensored truth here.
