Recruitment activity is steadily increasing in the BIM world and confidence in the construction industry is growing with more opportunities being advertised.

So, you would think finding a good opportunity would be easy. Not yet.

With more people looking for opportunities in the first quarter of the year and recruiters still being very specific in their needs, it is a difficult market to get noticed.

How do you stand out from the crowd and maximise your chance of an interview? Here are the 3 rules:

1: ROUND PEG, ROUND HOLE!

DO NOT waste time applying if your experience is not what the client is asking for.  THE MOST COMMON REASON AN APPLICATION DOES NOT PROGRESS TO AN INTERVIEW IS BECAUSE THE EXPERIENCE IS NOT RELEVANT!

2: THINK INSIDE THE BOX

With most companies adopting online, box ticking, application tracking systems, it is much easier for RELEVANT applications to get noticed. Read more

3: A GOOD CV

Whether you are applying through a tracking system or sending your CV to a human being, a good CV will make you stand out from the crowd.  They are rare and taking the time to write yours properly will pay dividends and get you more interviews. Find out How to write a good CV from someone who has been helping people get interviews for over 30 years.
