5 STEPS TO ATTRACTING BIM TALENT

5 steps

THE CHALLENGE

If you have ever advertised for BIM specialists you will know how frustrating it can be finding a good choice of relevant talent.

The 5-steps to attracting BIM talent is a tried and tested system that will help you attract more of the right candidates.

WHY USE THE 5 STEPS?

Supply and demand!

THE SUPPLY OF GOOD BIM TALENT IS REDUCING

Despite the downturn in 2020, the demand for affordable, project funded, BIM talent remained steady and absorbed what few good people that were available.

THE DEMAND FOR GOOD BIM TALENT WILL INCREASE

As confidence grows and more projects start, with staff levels already reduced, demand will increase. With additional government stimuli and pent-up demand in the private sector, that demand is likely to increase fast in 2021.

The economic impact of 2020 means budgets will remain tight across the construction industry for 2021 at least. This will force recruiters to narrow their focus on project-funded, affordable candidates – creating even higher demand in an already very shallow talent pool.

With demand increasing and supply reducing in 2021 it is only going to get more difficult to find already scarce talent. Unless you had a formula that worked before, repeating what you did before and expecting a different result is not going to deliver in a more competitive market. If you invest time implementing the 5 steps and make your adverts work harder, you will find the talent you need.

USING THE 5 STEPS

The 5 steps for attracting talent are: Attention, Interest, Desire, Conviction and Action (AIDCA).

The right content is important and the flow from step to step makes this process work. Each step simply serves to move your reader to the next. If any steps are weak, the reader loses interest and the whole process breaks down. But if each is strong, you will get the response you want.

If you want to attract scarce BIM talent more easily, click on the links below for to learn more:

Step 1: Attention: How to make sure your adverts are seen by enough – and the right – candidates.

Step 2: Interest: How to make sure candidates read about your opportunity.

Step 3: Desire: How to make sure candidates want to join you.

Step 4: Conviction: How to make sure candidates want to apply.

Step 5: Action: How to make sure candidates do apply.

I am determined to help anyone enthusiastic about their career in digital construction make the most of it. For 20 years I specialised in architectural recruitment before nailing my colours to the BIM mast in 2008. Hopefully, I have made a 'positive' difference to a few people's careers in that time. What I have learned over the years is that too much of the genuine talent is squandered. There is not enough information out there to help. It's out there but not shared. So, my solution is to find it and share it in this free knowledge 'hub' for anyone working in the Digital Built Environment - or thinking about joining us. If it doesn't deliver what you want - let me know!
