DEMAND:
The need for BIM in construction is only going in one direction. The question is how this need is going to be fulfilled.
New projects continue to be won and the demand for BIM staff continues steadily albeit mainly project funded to avoid increasing central overhead burden. Continuing high demand with the Management Consultancies that are prospering from the lack of appetite to hire strategic talent with many companies and the increasing specialist knowledge required for good digital transformation.
£60k+ senior level talent: BIM Managers to Firmwide Leaders: Demand stable.
£35 to £50k talent: Affordable BIM Coordinators with 1 to 5 years’ experience and affordable BIM Managers (project-centric) with 4 to 6 years’ experience. High demand will remain.
£25 to £30k: BIM trainees. Demand stable.
Many companies will continue to put off investing in trainees until more settled times return – or until the complete lack of talent forces them to.
SUPPLY:
Gap will increase due to increasing projects and decreasing supply. Will companies start to be more flexible about where people are based or lose staff to those who are? Opportunity to allow staff to work from regional offices?
£60k+ senior level talent: BIM Managers to Firmwide Leaders. Supply will remain OK.
£35 to £50k talent: From junior BIM Coordinators to junior BIM Managers with 2 to 6 years’ experience. Supply will continue to get worse.
£25 to £30k: Good BIM trainees. Good supply.
SALARIES:
Increasing but most companies unable to compete due to existing staff commitments. Smaller businesses have more flexibility and those with few/no BIM staff.
£60k+ senior level talent: BIM Managers to Firmwide Leaders: Salaries stable.
£35 to £50k talent: From junior BIM Coordinators to junior BIM Managers with 2 to 10 years’ experience. Salaries rising.
£25 to £30k: Good BIM trainees. Salaries rising.
