THE MANUAL
STEP 1
CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE BIM COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT TOOL
STEP 2
SELECT YOUR CURRENT ROLE
You are greeted by a simple ‘CURRENT ROLE’ pop up (see image below). This makes sure that only role specific questions are asked in the next stage. The red ‘NO’ button progresses you to the next role option until you can answer ‘YES’ to the question. As soon as any green ‘YES’ button is pressed you progress to the relevant questionnaire.
If you want to ‘discover’ your current role or answer all 61 questions keep clicking ‘NO’ until you get to the last option ‘TAKE THE FULL ASSESSMENT….’

STEP 3
THE ASSESSMENT
Having selected your CURRENT ROLE or the FULL ASSESSMENT, now complete the BIM Competency Assessment by selecting your current competency for each ‘requirement’. See image below.
The questions are broken down into 4 categories, Production, Management, Strategic and Interpersonal. The number of questions in each category depends on the role you have selected.

Once you answer the final question, the bar at the bottom left of the screen will show 100% and your ‘REPORT’ (with improvement targets) will come up on the screen. If this does not happen when you answer the final question, please go back through and ensure you have answered all the questions.
STEP 4
THE ‘WHERE AM I NOW?’ REPORT
The ‘REPORT‘ shows your current role and competency (click here for role and competency definitions) together with targeted improvement areas to progress to the next competency. See image below.

You can now:
REVIEW where you currently are in your career on the report and decide on what your next steps are to get to the next capability (if you would like to go through your report and/or get advice, please feel free to contact mike@dbe.careers), or
TWEAK any answer you want by closing the report, or
RESET the questionnaire by closing the report and clicking on the reset button at the bottom of the page, or
CHANGE your role selection in the white dropdown bar at the bottom of the page by closing the report (this will change your selection of questions), or
PRINT your ‘COMPETENCY CARD‘ and/or your ‘ACTION PLAN‘ by clicking the relevant buttons on the ‘REPORT‘.
STEP 5
YOUR ACTION PLAN
‘Ta da’ your action plan appears highlighting targeted improvement areas to progress to the next competency.
You can now:
SAVE and/or PRINT the pdf report, or
RESTART the assessment by going back to the assessment page, closing the report and clicking the RESET button.
